Self Portrait Challenge Peek

Our Art Quilts Around The World group is hosting a self portrait challenge this month. In October we opened the group up to new members which raised our numbers to thirty art quilters. It has been so much fun getting to know a new group of artists. I can't wait to see how they express their "selves".

Here is a peek at my piece almost finished except for the quilting. I received a very nice gift certificate for Christmas. I used it to buy the big set of Inktense pencils. These pencils act like colored pencils until you add water.  Then the pigment intensifies and behaves with watercolors.  It was surprising to find out that the box of 72 colors did not include flesh tones that match my skin color. I ended up using my trusty set of Prismacolor pencils to fill in the colors that the Inktense set lacked.  I'll show you more on February 1st.

This weekend I'm heading off to sew with the ladies of the Friendship Quilt Guild.  Every January we have a lock-in at a local church.  We will be working on baby quilts to be sold at auction for our local cancer charity.

Wishing you all creative days!  Chris

Beautiful piece and I like the idea of using colored pencils to use on fabrics. Are the inktense better than other types? Are they colorfast and do you heat set them?

I did a self portrait with fabric, still need to fix some things and finish it.

They are colorfast once you add water but are subject to fading.
