Interlocking Squares Quilt

I can't believe I forgot to blog about this quilt.  When I saw the "Galena" quilt pattern (created by the ladies of Hidden Quilts in Platteville Wisconsin) and knew I had to try it using my had dyed fabrics.  This twin sized quilt has been the back drop in my booth at quilt shows through all of 2012.

I LOVE THE QUILTING ON THIS QUILT!  The machine quilting was done by Marcia Wachuta of Marcia's Crafty Sewing.  Marcia is a professional longarm quilter.  All of her quilting is done freestyle (no computer assistance). I wanted a unique quilting pattern using double quilting with two colors of thread.  She suggested I use wool batting to enhance the quilting. The wool batting hangs out nice and flat after being stored folded for a couple of months. Thanks for the fantastic quilting and all your great suggestions Marcia!

Marcia is a very creative lady. She blogs often with all sorts of creative quilting ideas.

This quilt uses 24 hand dyed fat quarters with a cobalt blue background.  All of the focus fabrics are dyed using at total of 4 colors.  The bright colors are dyed using turquoise, yellow and red dyes. The earth tones use these same colors with a hint of black added to the dyes.  Oh the magic of black!!
This quilt goes together quickly once you get the hang of piecing the blocks.  It took me longer to cut the fabrics than it did to sew the blocks together.

Kits include a generous amount of hand dyed fabrics for the top and the binding.  The pattern is included in the purchase price of the kit.  The "Galena" pattern includes instructions for this quilt and an alternate version for a quilt top pieced with 2.5" strips.

All of my fat quarter gradients are currently on sale in Dye Candy Shop thought March 15.  Choose from my 12 fat quarter color wheels or the 7 step gradients. You can find these fabrics in the Mottled Solids section of my shop.

Happy Stitching!  Chris

Love your fabrics, and the quilting is just gorgeous. Does your quilter use a double needle? If so, that's something I never considered but sounds very intriguing.

Hi Laura, Marcia does not use a double needle. This quilt is quilted twice, once with one color thread then with the second. She also had to figure out how to quilt it with out crossing over the other thread color. Isn't the quilting fantastic?

Hi, Chris. What a lovely quilt--great fabrics and the quilting really enhances it. I bet people stopped at your booth all the time to stare in wonder! (Smart tactic!)
best, nadia
